They do not question anything, and as a result, they do not understand their religion completely and/or correctly. Such people are left with a toddler’s understanding of God. They use their religion as a group activity and follow set rules. Only those who have read their religion’s complete scripture, and have understood it completely, have some level of comprehension of their understanding of God and His rule over us.Being spiritual and being a follower of a religion are distinctly different. Although both can get us nearer to God, the understanding of these differs. We should be aware and acknowledge that spirituality is not an easy pathway. Spiritual journey starts at an individual level and takes you to the level of saints. We should, therefore, see why, how and when we should sidestep (step aside from) but not move away from spirituality. Spirituality is not easy, because its aim is to take you above human levels of consciousness (which are the levels of saints). Once this is achieved, we will understand what human weaknesses are, and at that point of time human actions and reactions will stop bothering us. Meaning, we stop being human and progress into a superior being. This then gives us a joy that is not experienced at human levels. Spirituality is progressive, so each person should go slowly on this journey and understand that a human cannot become a saint in one lifetime. Therefore, the need to sidestep should be understood. The time to move further on this journey will eventually come to all.Spirituality is hard to understand and follow. The reason being that spirituality means different things to different people. For some, it could be a quiet time in meditation, in a temple, in a quiet environment, or some nice feeling of joy. There are a few guiding principles that one should learn to go through a spiritual journey (preferably with someone more advanced to guide them). After some questioning and understanding, the journey becomes one’s own.Reasons for sidestepping spirituality:Spirituality should not be used as escapism. Meaning, you should not leave things for divine to sort out some difficulties for you. While spirituality gives you a feeling of security, happiness, and sense of achievement, you need to balance this with your worldly duties so that you do not then fail in your worldly duties. Which would then in fact, be some steps backwards.Some people set goals to achieve high levels of spirituality. In such cases, sidestepping is very important. First, for the reason that you may not be able to achieve the goal you set; resulting in a waste of what you did so far. Secondly, it reflects that you used this as a reason to escape some duties, which you should have been doing. This is not the way of spiritualism.Spirituality should not be associated with optimistic or positive thoughts. Meaning, you cannot use spirituality as an escape route from hard facts. For example, the half-glass of milk is a half-glass of milk, and not half empty or full. We should accept that although we would like a full glass of milk, there is only half. Sickness is sickness and medicines help to cure sickness. This is one more reason to understand that spirituality is not easy.We should not make use of any drugs to achieve levels that can slip us into a spiritual realm.We need to understand that prayers cannot solve all problems.We should put trust in what a guru, saint or scripture says to the extent that we can understand them, and like and have means to follow. We should not follow them blindly without questioning. Science and religion, for example, have had a tumultuous relationship throughout history. However, many individuals find that science, religion, and spirituality complement each other. Science provides answers to ‘how’ the universe works, while religion and spirituality addresses ‘why’. Philosophy and wisdom interpret the findings of science, religion, and spirituality. The best approach is to use a matchstick (rather than a lighter) and ignite the fire with a blank mind. For those who find it challenging to maintain a blank mind, silently reciting a protection prayer during the process enhances the spiritual intent. Three Primary Ways to Kindle a Spiritual Fire:Wood Fire: This method completely eradicates bad and negative vibrations.
